Hove Mural Commission Featuring Japanese Style Octopus Design

Inspired by my "Space Cat" mural in Hove, a local family with a passion for marine life commissioned me to bring an octopus to their entranceway. As an octopus lover myself, I was thrilled to dive into this project. Together, we envisioned a vibrant composition drawing inspiration from the bold lines and colours of Japanese woodblock prints, particularly Hokusai's iconic "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and Kuniyoshi's captivating works. This choice not only reflects the family's love for aquatic wonders but also creates a striking graphic statement that welcomes visitors with a splash of artistic energy.

To ensure a peaceful and healthy environment for the family's newborn, I traded my usual spray cans for brushes for this project. While it took longer than my typical spray-painted murals, the meticulous brushwork offered a unique meditative experience that perfectly complements the octopus theme.

I am so thrilled with how this mural unfolds! The rose red of the octopus boldly contrasts against the calming sea blues, making it a captivating centrepiece in this hidden treasure of a location. Tucked away in the family's private caven, their new octopus protector now stands guard, welcoming them and visitors alike with a splash of artistic wonder.
