From July 28-30, 2023, I painted at the Hands Off The Wall Festival in Munich, Germany. A festival celebrating women’s art in street art and graffiti. Hands Off The Wall is now in its fifth year and has made a name for itself. From more than 300 applications, the festival management selected 33 female artists from Europe, the U.S., Canada, South America, Africa and New Zealand, who I got the opportunity to paint alongside, in the neighbourhood “Werksviertel-Mitte”.
It was such an honour painting my tiger mural in Germany alongside so many amazing talented women. We are so regularly overlooked and underappreciated. As a woman it is very hard to be respected within the art community, let alone the street art community. Regularly there are no women at street art events or I am the only woman at street art events. It is so important to have events like this where women’s work can shine and prove to the public and the industry that we do deserve space and we are as valuable as the men in this industry.
My “Urban Jungle” piece contains 2 tigers on a graphic background. Representing how our world is being urbanised and wildlife is left with nowhere to go. The buildings and our infrastructure are now our jungles. I painted this piece over the course of 3 days, in between thunder storms. I met so many wonderful talented women while I was there including @curtiscreationz, @hellothemushroom @junekima.rt @aafk @floxnz and @mjlindo.
Street Art Workshop
As well as painting my own piece at Werksviertel-Mitte in Munich at Hands Off The Wall Festival, I also held a Street art workshop teaching the next generation how to use a spray can. It was a fantastic experience and I was so grateful to teach so many children from Munich.
