KITTY POWER - Cat Mural Unleashed in Brighton's North Laine!
Brighton's North Laine just got a whole lot more feline and fabulous! You might have spotted a giant kitty cat mural with lightning bolt lasers shooting from her eyes on the corner of Gloucester Road and Cheltenham Place. This purr-fectly eye-catching piece was a commission by a wonderful cat lover named Dan, inspired by his best friend's sassy marmalade cat, Moxie.
The design pays homage to my 2022 "Glitchy Kitty" mural from the Yardworks street art festival in Glasgow, a piece that Dan and Moxie's owner adored. With its vibrant colours and bold lines, this new Brighton mural captures Moxie's undeniable attitude and playful spirit. (And maybe just a hint of Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust with those lightning bolts! 😉)
The response from the Brighton community has been amazing! I loved chatting with everyone who stopped by, explaining the process and sharing stories about their own furry friends. Being opposite The Basket Makers pub provided a captive audience, and it was great to see so many people engaging with the artwork.
Painting in the chilly February weather was a challenge, requiring multiple layers and a healthy dose of determination. A huge thank you to the kind lady who shared her hand warmers – a true lifesaver!
This mural was a joy to create, and I'm excited to announce that SNUB23 and I will be collaborating to extend the design onto the rest of the wall. I can't wait to see what SNUB23 comes up with! Stay tuned for more feline fabulousness in the North Laine.
