Rudyard Kipling Primary School Mural - Woodingdean, Brighton
I recently had the absolute pleasure of bringing a splash of color to Rudyard Kipling Primary School in Woodingdean. The school council and I embarked on a creative journey to design a mural that would inspire and delight the students.
Before even touching a paintbrush, I sat down with the incredibly enthusiastic school council. It was clear from the get-go that these kids had some amazing ideas! They wanted a mural that celebrated their school and made them feel inspired and motivated. The headteacher, a die-hard Brighton and Hove Albion fan, so it was obvious a seagull needed to find its way into the design.
One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the school's brand-new wildlife pond. The kids were buzzing with excitement about their dream inhabitants: axolotls! How could I resist including these super cute and fascinating creatures in the mural?
With a head full of inspiration, I set to work. The final design was a vibrant explosion of color, featuring a celebration of Brighton’s sea, the iconic seagull, a happy little axolotl, and the empowering message, "You Are Amazing." It was incredible to see the kids' faces light up as they watched the mural come to life.
The best part was seeing the piece bring joy to everyone, from the students to the parents collecting their kids. Hearing comments about how cool the painting looked made every brushstroke and squeeze of the spraycan worthwhile. It's moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.
I'm already looking forward to my next school project! 🎨
